ANG 6930 Geoarchaeology

Dr. Contreras

Geoarchaeology is the subfield of archaeology focused on reconstructing past landscapes, analyzing past human-environment interactions, and examining site formation processes, generally through the application of earth science methods to archaeological questions. Questions about the human past and interpretation of archaeological evidence often require examinations of both cultural and non-cultural sediments and landscapes, using methods from both archaeology and earth sciences. This course surveys geoarchaeological method and theory, with an emphasis on case studies in macro-scale analysis (sites in their settings, landscape reconstruction, etc.) .
