Gender and Religion within Santo Daime
Camila Benedito is a doctoral student from Federal University of Sao Carlos/Brazil visiting UF and working with Dr. Robin Wright. She will share her research on the intersection between gender and religion studies, providing a new layer of understanding on Santo Daime and its regional and global expansion.​ Santo Daime is a Brazilian ayahuasca religion founded in 1930 in the city of Rio Branco (Acre) which has since the 1970s expanded to other Brazilian regions and since the 1990s to other countries.
Recent Change in Language Policy of Singapore and its Potential Implications
“Han” Hanchao Zhao is a M. A. student from the University of Florida’s Department of Anthropology. His research focuses on language and culture in Southeast Asia. Based on his fieldwork in Summer 2017, Han retrospects the Speak Mandarin Campaign of Singapore and its recent change.
Singapore is a tiny multicultural city-state in the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It is one of the richest nations in the world, and also has a significant linguistic and cultural diversity; yet, it enjoys a high-level of cultural accommodation and racial harmony.
