After a one-week hiatus, the Scrapbook is back. Here’s a few things happening around the Department:
Announcing some New Hires in Anthropology
I am pleased to welcome two new hires to our Department, who will join us in August:
Dr. Gabriel Prieto comes to us from the National University of Trujillo and he is currently a National Geographic Explorer. He has been excavating archaeological sites in the North Coast of Peru, and specifically in the Moche Valley, since 2010.
Dr. Saul Schwartz arrives at UF from the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his PhD in anthropology from Princeton in 2015. His research focuses on the cultural politics of Native American language documentation and revitalization.
A warm welcome to both of our new colleagues.
Upcoming Armadillo Roast
Mark your calendars, as the Armadillo Roast is fast approaching, on March 16 at Rancho El Cenote in Jonesville. If you’re interested in volunteering, contact Hannah Toombs, FASA President, and she will set you up.
Arun Agrawal Lecture at UF
Dr. Arun Agrawal will visit UF to deliver two talks as part of the Department of Geography’s 2019 Lecture Series.
Upcoming Archaeology Lecture
Dr. Christopher Watts (University of Waterloo) will present “The Counter-Monumentality of Central Great Lakes Earthworks.” The lecture will be in on Monday, March 11 at 3:00 in Marston L136. Contact Ken Sassaman (sassaman@ufl.edu) for further information.
Gator Nation Giving Day
Thanks to all who donated to Gator Nations Giving Day on Tuesday this week. There were over 11,000 individual donors (the original goal was 5000), and more than 12.6 million dollars raised for the University — some of which comes to us! Thanks to everyone who donated.
