UF Anthropology Grieves Loss of Long-Time Friends of the Department: Polly Doughty and Harvey Bricker

Message from the Chair:

We received news late yesterday that Polly Doughty passed away early yesterday morning.  Most of you knew Polly, wife of emeritus faculty member and former chair Paul Doughty.  The Doughtys have been strong supporters of the department and the discipline of anthropology intellectually, spiritually and through their generous donations to our students.  Polly was a central figure in our community and a regular attendee at all our functions.  I recall seeing her at the SfAA meetings many times over the years.  While we do not have any details yet about plans for a service we will keep you informed.  I’m sure many of us would like to pay our respects to one of our dearest friends.

I was also informed that Harvey Bricker, one of our courtesy faculty, also passed away yesterday.  Harvey was an archaeologist with a long and productive career at Tulane.  Harvey and his wife retired to the area and joined our department as courtesy faculty in 2006.  The Brickers were regular attendees at our holiday parties and other events.

Regards,

Dr. Chris McCarty
