The fourth annual Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) Student Research on Aging Exposition is seeking submissions (by February 11, 2014) for a juried poster competition on student research in late-life, aging and age-related conditions on February 18-19, 2014 at Oak Hammock at the University of Florida (Williston Road and S.W 25th Terrace, Gainesville).
By February 11 (5 p.m.), all applicants must submit application forms and abstracts to Bob Porter.
On February 18, all applicants must set up posters at 5:30 p.m. and be present at the reception (6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) in the Oak Room of Oak Hammock, where five finalists will be chosen by 9 p.m. to present their poster research orally the next day.
On February 19, the finalists must arrive by 9:30 a.m. for oral presentations (10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.). Each talk will last 10 minutes, followed by five minutes for audience questions. Final winners will then be chosen by a panel of three judges with related professional experience, looking at aging relevance, clarity of topic/application, originality and organization, depth of understanding, visuals, oral presentation, professionalism, acknowledgement of collaborators, and response to questions. Students and mentors are invited for lunch afterwards.
The prizes are first place ($300), second place ($250), third place ($200) and two honorable mentions ($100), to be presented at the ILR Appreciation and Awards Gathering at 5:30 p.m. on March 27, 2014 in the Oak Room of Oak Hammock.
Applicants must be first author on the poster.
