Research Interests
My PhD research focuses on paranormal perceptions and the subcultural community of paranormal research groups in Florida. Dissertation research includes participant observation, surveys, and interviews of paranormal research groups colloquially known as “ghost hunters.” Topics of ethnicity, gender, religion, community, narrative, ethics, the media, science and technology are incorporated to explore how Western culture portrays and perceives paranormal themes and experiences. This ethnography of ghost hunting groups explores how paranormal themes and uncanny experiences are interwoven with religious beliefs, orientations of the self, media portrayals, and investigated with methods of science and technology.
