The University of Florida offers 3 different field schools on a rotating basis:
- Historical Archaeological Field School (opens in new tab) (Dr. James M. Davidson): The 2014 field school will be at Bulow Plantation. The past 8 years it has been at Kingsley Plantation.
- Lower Suwannee Archaeological Field School (opens in new tab) (Dr. Ken Sassaman)
- Suwannee Valley (Dr. Neill J. Wallis (opens in new tab) – FLMNH (opens in new tab) partnership)
Undergraduate students concentrating in archaeology are strongly encouraged to take an archaeological field school. A good field school offers training in both field and laboratory methods. Consider, for example, the Lower Suwannee Archaeological Field School (opens in new tab) offered through the Laboratory of Southeastern Archaeology (opens in new tab). The Department will also accept credit from field schools offered by other universities.
For more information, the American Anthropological Association (AAA) publishes an annual listing of field schools (opens in new tab).
