Dr. Anna Guengerich
Senior Lecturer in Anthropology at Vanderbilt University

Bio: Dr. Guengerich received a doctorate in anthropology from the University of Chicago and has directed the Tambillo Archaeological Project since 2011.  Her research examines the historical and political ecology of anthropogenic landscapes and built environments in complex societies, with a focus on cloud forest regions of pre-Columbian eastern Peru prior to and following incorporation into the Inka Empire.  This work has been supported by National Geographic, the American Philosophical Society, and the National Science Foundation.  Additional areas of research interest include highland Bolivia, community and public archaeology, and alternative uses of visual media in archaeology.  Guengerich’s talk will present results of ongoing research on built environments and agrohydraulic systems in the Eastern Andes, with a focus on how societies used cloud forest landscapes to mediate power relations prior to and following Inka conquest.
