Lunchtime Workshop on Careers in Public Archaeology

April 13, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Careers in Public Archaeology with National Park Service Archaeologist Dr. Joshua Torres

Thursday, April 13, 11:00-1:00, Turlington 1208A (Conference Room)

Join us for a lunchtime workshop with National Park Service Archaeologist Dr. Joshua Torres, whose 11 years of federal service and another decade of work with private firms in Cultural Resource Management make him ideally suited to advise students on careers in Public Archaeology. Dr. Torres will share with us his experiences in government service and provide guidance for making the most of our new graduate degree options starting this Fall: an undergraduate combination degree (BA or BS/MA) and a terminal MA in Anthropology, both with a certificate in Public Archaeology. Any student interested in potential employment with the National Park Service, even beyond Public Archaeology, is encouraged to attend. Pizza will be served at noon.

Dr. Joshua Torres is Supervisor of History and Culture Programs/Regional Archaeologist with the National Park Service in Washington, D.C. He is the former Acting Bureau Archaeologist and Acting Department Consulting Archaeologist, Department of the Interior. Dr. Torres is a GIS specialist whose research centers on the archaeology and history of the Circum-Caribbean and American Southeast. He earned his PhD. in Anthropology from the University of Florida in 2012.
