Anthropology Conference Room, Turlington Hall 1208
In this presentation, I will examine the different mechanisms that have been developed to conserve the fragile and unique ecosystems of the Galapagos, including the Galapagos Marine Reserve and the Terrestrial areas. I will look at the way in which these mechanisms have been successful or not. Special emphasis will be placed on the way in which the local population accepts or rejects these management mechanisms. Explore the conflicts between local people and mangers and analyze power relations between the different sectors.
Dr. Diego Quiroga is the current vice president of Research at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), Ecuador. In addition, he is also the Co-Director of the Galapagos Academic Institute for the Arts and Sciences (GAIAS) located on the island of San Cristobal, Galapagos.
