Spring Travel Apps are due by the end of the day today
Graduate students should submit their application to Nita Bagnall, faculty to Karen Jones.
Course Syllabi
It doesn’t feel like it, but the semester is rapidly winding down and spring semester will be here very quickly. As you complete your course syllabi for Spring, please send a copy to Riley Ravary (ravaryri@ufl.edu) so that we may get those posted on our website.
Schmink Innovation Award
Applications are due Monday, November 19. The Schmink Award is a Tropical Conservation and Development program funded by an endowment that honors Dr. Marianne Schmink for her extraordinary contributions to conservation and development and her long-term leadership of the TCD Program. Award winners will receive up to $1,200 to implement their ideas. The Award is open to both faculty and students. Find the announcement and details here.
Fall Research Exhibition
The deadline for submissions is November 28. Please email Chris LeClere (cleclere@ufl.edu) if you are planning to participate.
As a reminder, the top two graduate posters and the top undergraduate poster will receive a monetary prize and have their posters displayed in the chair’s office. We will screen films and photoethnographies at the event and on the anthropology department YouTube channel.
It is open to the public, and light refreshments will be provided.
Holiday Party
Our Annual Holiday Party is December 5 this year, from 3-5pm, in the Keene Faculty Center. As a reminder, this is a pot luck affair, so bring your most festive nom noms. Don’t have time to whip up a quick Lobster Thermador for the party? We’re happy to take donations to help with the costs of our catering.
Also, for faculty who have not yet done so, this is your chance to talk about your research program on camera — and in a gaudy holiday sweater, no less. We will be setting up to shoot profiles as part of the festivities.
Potlatch Skit Going Viral
Everyone who attended Potlatch last month fondly remembers the faculty skit, written and directed by our very own Dr. Phoebe Stubblefield (a.k.a. “ the next Lin-Manuel Miranda”). The skit rivals Hamilton for it’s poignant writing, exquisite acting, and catchy soundtrack. Don’t believe me? The skit lives in perpetuity on Youtube, and you can view it here.
Hot Off the Press
Dr. John Krigbaum recently published an article with colleagues in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (2018) Bronze Age population dynamics and the rise of dairy pastoralism on the eastern Eurasian steppe. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Find it here.
Dr. Adrienne Strong published an article in the most recent issue of Human Organization, “Causes and Effects of Occupational Risk for Healthcare Workers on the Maternity Ward of a Tanzanian Hospital.” Find the article here.
Congratulations to both!
