Association for Academic Women Madelyn Lockhart Fellowship
The Association for Academic Women (AAW) at the University of Florida established the Madelyn Lockhart Fellowship to honor a PhD candidate who is both an outstanding researcher and who has contributed to creating a more inclusive and diverse community. One Fellowship in the amount of up to $2,000 will be awarded annually to assist in the dissertation phase of the doctoral degree.
This award was established to honor Dr. Madelyn Lockhart, who served as Dean of the Graduate School and Dean of International Studies and Programs at the University of Florida from 1985 to 1993 (and also as Associate Dean 1981 to 1985, and Assistant Dean 1973 to 1977 and 1979 to 1981). Dr. Lockhart aided women and minorities in many ways, including the implementation of this Fellowship program. A nomination can come from a faculty member or from the candidate and the candidate can be from any PhD program.

We ask that applicants submit their completed applications to their respective departments/colleges by December 8, 2017 so that the deadline is consistent for all applicants across campus.
The final applications will be reviewed by the AAW panel and the winner will be notified by mid-February. The award will be presented at the Annual Women’s History Month Celebration, typically held in March.

Samuel Proctor Oral History Program
The Samuel Proctor Oral History Program is offering two experiential learning courses in the Spring 2018 semester. Please email Ryan Morini (ryan.s.morini@gmail.com) if you have any questions, or just stop by Pugh Hall 248.
The Internship in Oral History and Performance, co-taught by Jeff Pufahl and Ryan Morini, will focus on creating performance pieces by conducting and connecting oral history interviews with African Americans in north and central Florida to the artwork of Jacob Lawrence.
A Black and Latinx History of the Gator Nation, which is offered in collaboration with African American Studies, offers students a chance to critically analyze the history of the University of Florida by immersing themselves in existing primary sources and generating new ones through fieldwork. http://oral.history.ufl.edu/
Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program
The purpose of the Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program is to support high-caliber scholarship in the social sciences and humanities, making it possible for the recipients to devote time to research and writing that addresses pressing issues and cultural transitions affecting us at home and abroad. The 2018 program will provide fellowships of $200,000 to between thirty and thirty-five exceptional scholars, journalists, and public intellectuals.
Andrew Carnegie fellowships are open only to citizens or permanent residents of the United States
For the 2018 program, there are four broad topic areas that include a wide range of suggested subtopics:
- Strengthening U.S. democracy and exploring new narratives
- Technological and cultural creativity—potential and perils
- Global connections and global ruptures
- Environments, natural and human
UF may submit TWO nominations- one for a Junior Scholar and one for a senior scholar.Regardless of title, a junior scholar is defined as someone who received his/her Ph.D. within the last ten years, 2007-2017, for the 2018 fellowship program.
Interested applicants must submit a concept paper as described below to the UF Office of Research (Attn: Jeevan Jyot,limitedprograms@research.ufl.edu) by Oct 26, 2017 for internal coordination.
Concept Paper Details:
- a letter of recommendation from your department chair
- a three page prospectus prepared by the nominee that describes his or her project, including a projected work plan and approximate time frame
- a biosketch in the format provided
